“A Pig Eating Past Love” by Johnny Beauford :: Full Press Release & Music Video

Bravo! Max 13

DALLAS TX–“I love recording things the instant I write them”: That’s a sentiment that might strike fear in the hearts of many musicians, but Johnny Beauford welcomes the challenge. The singer-songwriter is employing this sense of spontaneity on his new sophomore set, A Pig Eating Past Love, which is set for release January 14, 2014.

Beauford who has made considerable waves in the Americana and local Texas music scene both as a solo artist and as part of bands the Jack Kerowax and bravo, max!, considers his daring process an integral element in his much-lauded, narrative songwriting.

“This method comes with human flaws, and these flaws sometimes turn into the most beautiful pieces,” he explains. “Although perfection can make an artist feel very gratified in their work, I much prefer to at least attempt to tap into to the magical one-time-only performances that only come when you allow them the space to.”

The seven-song EP was recorded in large part as a one-man process (with help on a few tracks from friends), resulting in a lo-fi sound and “interesting rhythm concepts” that fans of Beauford’s first solo work will recognize and appreciate. “Think Bon Iver’s debut For Emma, Forever Ago, performing most of the parts for each song on his own,” says Beauford. “But instead of a cabin in the woods of Wisconsin, I used a studio apartment in the big city of Dallas.”

The release joins an impressive list of accolades on Beauford’s resume, which includes a 2011 Dallas Observer nomination for best Alt-Country/Americana Act for his work with bravo, max!. Local press have asserted “Beauford may be the most promising young songwriter in the region”, and notes that he deserves inclusion in “the top tier of North Texas songwriters.” Beauford’s prolific abilities have allowed him to easily fuel his slate of multiple musical projects, which in their own rights have received regional praise.
